The CGDI team is ready to work on this page again and it's been made available here: https://wordpress.dev.geo.ca/initiatives/canadian-geospatial-data-infrastructure/addressing-cgdi-needs/

Geoview maps have been added for Climate Change and Water Resources to allow the CGDI team to review the maps.

@Andrea-Merry

The Responding to User Needs page has been updated with the above changes and is ready on dev now. The Climate Change Starter Kit Preview and Water Resources Starter Kit Preview have also been updated.

Under Key Resources on the Responding to User Needs page it says "To Learn more about the User Needs Assessment and Starter Kits, view the links below:". Should the "L" in Learn be lowercase?

Once this is approved, are we planning to create a card or new section on the Initiatives page that links to the Responding to User Needs page so users can find it?

On geo.ca we aren't currently running the latest development of geoview so there may be some small variations in the interface compared to what they were generating in the geoview sandbox. If they need adjustments or something is missing on the starter kit maps just let me know and I will see what we can do to solve it with the current version.

For the Water Resources map, in the config they have it set to load initially with the Layers Panel open on the Add Layer tab. Is this intentional or would they prefer the map load with the Legend showing initially?

There is currently an error on the Water Resources Starter Kit map. The server for this layer appears to be down.

Hi Jared,
Sorry for the delay. I was off last week. Please see my comments below.
1- Under Key Resources on the Responding to User Needs page it says "To Learn more about the User Needs Assessment and Starter Kits, view the links below:". Should the "L" in Learn be lowercase? Yes
2- Once this is approved, are we planning to create a card or new section on the Initiatives page that links to the Responding to User Needs page so users can find it? Yes. I will confirm the thumbnail with the team.
3- There is currently an error on the Water Resources Starter Kit map. The server for this layer appears to be down. I will let them know.
4- For the Water Resources map, in the config they have it set to load initially with the Layers Panel open on the Add Layer tab. Is this intentional or would they prefer the map load with the Legend showing initially? I will confirm with them and let you know.

Good morning,
Please see the requested changes to the Responding to user needs page as requested by the CGDI team and their responses to your questions. See attached document for reference.
Thank you,
Andrea

Requested changes:
• Page subtitle content change missing - "Making the geospatial community requirements count" -> "Making the CGDI geospatial community requirements count"
• Starter Kits section is missing the bolded content below - These starter kits were created in response to identified user needs and to demonstrate how users can quickly gain access to analysis ready data. Each kit offers a compact, comprehensive, and user-friendly gateway to thematically/geographically grouped sets of information. Four starter kits are demonstrated below: 2 national, 1 provincial, and 1 territorial.
• Key Resources – Please switch the CGDI Factsheet and CGDI Cookbook thumbnail photos.

Initiatives page:
Please reuse their banner photo that they currently have on the UNA page as the thumbnail with the following text.
A User Needs Assessment (UNA) for the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) was conducted to understand Canadian user requirements, including those of Indigenous organizations, and curated data products were developed to address them.

For the layer on the Water Resources Starter Kit please remove this specific layer (“Reported releases to surface water for 2022 / Rejets dans l’eau déclarés pour 2022”) and replace it by enabling the “Tide and Water Level Station” layer that is currently hidden.

Please note – with this change, 2 textual changes to the text description on the preview page and on the main page (where the map preview is described). Please replace the following sentence:

“This preview map displays water temperature and reported pollutant releases to surface water in 2022.”
With
“This preview map displays water temperature along with the tide and water level stations across Canada.”

For the Water Resources Map, please modify the configuration so the map loads with the legend initially.

I've updated the Responding to User Needs page with the following changes:

  • Subtitle updated to "Making the CGDI geospatial community requirements count"
  • Missing text added to the Starter Kits section
  • Fixed the thumbnails for the CGDI Factsheet/Cookbook under Key Resources
  • Updated Water Resources description

I updated the layers for the Water Resources map, set the legend to display on load an updated the description there too.

For the Initiatives page I added a card for the UNA. I placed it under "Featured Geospatial Initiatives" but if it is supposed to go under "Select Tools and Products" just let me know and I can move it down there.

Thank you for the quick turn around.

  1. Can you please make this section of the sentence bold "under how users can quickly gain access to analysis ready data." It is under the Starter Kits section.

  2. Remove the extra period after the first sentence on the water resources starter kit page.
    https://wordpress.dev.geo.ca/initiatives/responding-to-user-needs/water-resources-starter-kit-preview/

  3. Can you swap out the Critical Minerals card on the GEO.ca home page, move the GeoBase in its place and add the Responding to User Needs card from the initiatives page as the third card? I think it is a good thing to keep the content updated on the home page.
Otherwise I think it is great. I will send to the team for approval and translation. Thank you.

Hi Jared,
Please see the changes below requested from the CGDI team. Let me know if you require clarification from them.
Thank you,
Andrea

• For the map preview pages, we noticed the legend entries for the layers were not clearly visible and were being cut off. Is it possible to have the complete layer names visible in the legend? If this is not possible, I suggest renaming the layers to move the prefix to the end of the layer name for all layers. i.e. in the example below move “RDPS-WEonG” to the end of the layer name so “Total precipitation intensity index” can be made visible. This will ensure the layer names are more meaningful.

• When I open the preview page from the main UNA page, I get 404 errors, the preview pages only work with the link you provided.

• For the following sentence, we noticed a typo: “CGDI starter kits, factsheet, primer, and a cookbook were generated to address some of these key findings.” It should be “starter” instead of “start”

• “This kit features geospatial data relevant to British Columbia such as aquatic wildlife, infrastructure, and oil and gas data,” should be, “This kit features geospatial data relevant to British Columbia such as aquatic information, wildlife, infrastructure, and oil and gas data.”

• Thank you for adding the missing text “how users can quickly gain access to analysis ready data”. Please remove the bold from this sentence, I bolded it to showcase the text that was missing, apologies for the miscommunication!

• For both the Water and Climate Preview pages, the hyperlink should be “Download the starter kit Catalogue

• Most of the download links for the packages do not seem to be functioning, please update the ‘Starter Kits’ section and the preview map pages with the following links:

  • Layer names updated in map preview pages: It's not possible to adjust how Geoview displays the layer names so I've moved the prefixes to the end of the layer name as suggested above
  • 404s fixed for preview pages: The card titles for the maps were still pointing to the old URLs that still included the CGDI parent page so these have been updated to the correct URL.
  • Typo corrected here: “CGDI starter kits, factsheet, primer, and a cookbook were generated to address some of these key findings.” It should be “starter” instead of “start”
  • BC Starter Kit description updated to: “This kit features geospatial data relevant to British Columbia such as aquatic information, wildlife, infrastructure, and oil and gas data.”
  • Bold removed here: “how users can quickly gain access to analysis ready data”
  • Link text updated here: For both the Water and Climate Preview pages, the hyperlink should be “Download the starter kit Catalogue
  • Starter Kit Package links updated: Updated on both the main page as well as the Climate Change and Water Resources Preview pages

Good morning,
Two minor additions to the UNA page.
Thank you,
Andrea
1- On the page subtitle, spell out CGDI and keep the abbreviation also -> Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI)
2- In the User Needs Assessment (UNA) section, please add a hyperlink to "Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI)" with the following link - https://natural-resources.canada.ca/science-and-data/science-and-research/geomatics/canadas-spatial-data-infrastructure/10783

Hi,
Please make the changes below requested by the CGDI team.
Thank you,
Andrea

  • Remove geospatial from this sentence: Making the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) geospatial community requirements count.

  • Add Access in front of Starter Kits in the list below:

  1. User Needs Assessment (UNA)
  2. Preview Starter Kits
  3. Key Findings from the UNA
  4. Identified Benefits of the CGDI Community
  5. Identified Needs of the CGDI Community
  6. Starter Kits
  7. Key Resources
  • Please replace the paragraph under the User Needs Assessment heading with the following:
User requirements and capacity have changed since the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) began in the 1990s. Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) commissioned reports to identify and respond to these needs. NRCan discovered that spatial data users require diverse spatial data from different sources. Indigenous organizations are eager to increase their access to geospatial data layers and tools for land use and management purposes.

In response to these findings, thematically grouped ‘Starter Kits’ – two national kits, 1 territorial kit, and 1 provincial kit were created to demonstrate how users can quickly gain access to analysis ready data.

  • Remove "including Indigenous groups" from this sentence

Capacity Building: Users, including Indigenous groups, need support and training for effective data use and collaboration.

  • Please add Access to the Starter Kits Header here:

Access Starter Kits
These starter kits were created in response to identified user needs and to demonstrate how users can quickly gain access to analysis ready data. Each kit offers a compact, comprehensive, and user-friendly gateway to thematically/geographically grouped sets of information. Four starter kits are demonstrated below: 2 national, 1 provincial, and 1 territorial.

Thank you! Sorry I forgot one item. Please remove "and respond to" from this sentence. I highlighted in bold. User requirements and capacity have changed since the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) began in the 1990s. Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) commissioned reports to identify and respond to these needs.
