Multi-environmental Setup

I'm throwing a hand grenade here, but does Polylith support multiple virtual environments per base/project?

Yes, you can do that. I know some teams do that, to run a specific project as if it were a single repo/in isolation. I usually don't recommend it, but it should not affect anything with the tool (unless you install deps in there without adding it to the pyproject.tomls or lockfiles, then Polylith won't know about the dependency).

Yeh, I totally agree. This was asked by a colleague and I basically said I don't recommend adding the complexity and overhead for maybe one dependency conflict between situations.

If there's a component that is updated and has a new dependency version, but not all projects are ready for it - I would create a "v2" of that to isolate the changes. The project can include that one, and the development (top-level pyproject.toml and lock file) can exclude it to not have the conflict between the v1 and v2. This is not optimal, but could be a way forward if the intention is to have it like that for a limited time.

In addition, if there's a lot of code that is identical in the v1 and v2, you can duplicate it or (better): extract the shared parts into a new component. Both v1 and v2 could use that new component and there won't be any code duplications in the repo.
