As a musician I have long searched for something to displace proprietary tools like Ultimate Guitar.
I was thinking about a very similar database but in ChordPro format, maybe we can join forces?

I thought about it long ago, even before starting this project. Tabs, poems, subtitles, lyrics. I started first with lyrics.
I wouldn't want to involve myself in that just yet, but this whole Lyrics GitHub organization is full of repos that can be forked and repurposed for anything you want! Be that chords, subtitles, or anything else. You, me, or anyone else can do it in under a week.
UG was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title of the issue. I know they had to move their servers around the globe to avoid DMCA or some other headache a decade or two ago. Didn't know it's a proprietary tool today, back in my days it was a website full of plaintext tabs, and I think there were also files for some desktop program there. None of that content was "stolen" or was hurting the authors financially, yet still record labels and publishing companies went after them (not sure about artists). Perhaps that all happened because they always had a million ads and were generating gazillions from that every month... don't know the whole story.
As long as it's for non-commercial, strictly educational use (no ads, most likely no donations accepted on behalf of the project), it should be fine, I guess, but I'm not a lawyer.
