One of the major issues with roads is the classification.
The validation style I use puts a heavy emphasis on roads using colors and line thickness so I can visually see what is likely not to make sense in the road classification.
I can come up with a better example maybe, but attached is an example.

Here is my validation style, I can see right away where there are probably road classification problems. I added the arrows for clarity. Those red roads are unclassified, they should probably be residential. Again, not a great example, but gives you the idea.
