Feature requests (maybe good for brainhack) - when starting up NeuroDesktop, it would be nice to see popups with useful info with graphics- e.g.,
"Where is my data living?" (both in neurodesktop and on my host machine with graphics, not command line)
"Tips and Tricks (e.g., mounting external hard drives, cleaning up disk space)"
"FAQ [link]"
I think it would be nice to have a link to the a list of all the software provided on neurodesk with a blurb - maybe this could open in firefox within the instance. Title "What software is available?"

Dear @thomshaw92,

These are all excellent ideas and it would be great if you could help implementing them :)

Some of these we already started:

  1. "Where is my data living?" (both in neurodesktop and on my host machine with graphics, not command line) + "Tips and Tricks (e.g., mounting external hard drives, cleaning up disk space)"
This is documented on the website: https://neurodesk.github.io/docs/neurodesktop/storage/ and we the idea was to add a menu entry to the main menu that opens the website
What's missing: can you add graphics to the website?
Can you add the menu entry opening the browser to point to the website? A help button was also proposed in Adding a help button to Neurodesktop menu #52 but it hasn't happened yet.

  2. "FAQ [link]"
We have a troubleshooting section : https://neurodesk.github.io/docs/neurodesktop/troubleshooting/ - but this could be renamed to FAQ. Also @air2310 was proposing an FAQ section earlier, but I am not sure where this is at :)

  3. What software is available
This needs a little bit of magic on the website to automatically generate the list of available software. This is discussed in issue Easy access to the list of software available in Neurodesk neurodesk.github.io#53

Idea:

  • Add a new top menu "Getting started with Neurodesktop ..."
  • subitems: "How to get my data in here?" "Which applications are installed" ...
  • These link to website where the questions are answered
  • make sure to add Guacamole panel documentation
