This repository contains a list of IT startup companies in New Zealand for the years 2023 and 2024, obtained through an Official Information Act request to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). The public request can be viewed here.

The response from MBIE provided the following information:
- The Companies Office does not have a specific category for or data on startups.
- However, a list of companies registered in 2023 and 2024 engaged in IT-related activities was provided.
- Data was obtained by searching the companies register on 21 February 2024 using the provided Business Industry Classification (BIC) codes for the following industries:
- Electricity, gas, water and waste services
- Information media and telecommunication
- Professional, scientific, and technical services
- Public administration and safety
- Only companies that provided their BIC code are included.
- Companies with multiple BIC codes appear multiple times.
- Only publicly available information from the companies register is included.
- Some information has been withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act to protect privacy.
