Whitelist not working for new directory

I'm trying to bring my themes up to speed with Sections, and thus have added sections/ to my config.yml whitelist:

:whitelist_files:
- layout/
- assets/
- config/
- snippets/
- templates/
- locales/
- sections/

Unfortunately when I theme watch and save a file inside the sections folder I get the error:

'sections/test.liquid' is not in a valid file for theme uploads
Files need to be in one of the following subdirectories: layout/ assets/ config/ snippets/ templates/ locales/

Saw this issue, but the fix doesn't seem to work in my case. Am I missing something?

I'm having the same issue. I added to whitelist and cannot download sections/
