Install on Linux Mint

Hi everybody,

I am really stoked to have found this project, since I have been looking for a proper, intelligent tagging tool for quite some time.

I am new to my operating system, though, since I've changed to Linux from Windows recently. Could someone offer advice on installing TagStudio in Linux (Linux Mint 22.1)?

I haven't ventured into the realm of installing tarballs manually yet, and I still find everything but .deb installs quite hard to understand, frankly...:)

Hi.
You may need to install some dependencies on Linux Mint, but that shouldn't be hard: #182 (comment)

And here are the short instructions after you do the above:

1. Download the archive from GitHub releases (of course, the linux one) - https://github.com/TagStudioDev/TagStudio/releases
2. Open the archive and extract "tagstudio" folder to a location of your choosing
3. Right click the "tagstudio" file in "tagstudio" folder and click on properties
4. Make sure that "run this program as executable" is checked on - it may be worded differently
5. Open terminal in the directory where tagstudio is located - right click on empty space select correct option
6. type ./tagstudio and press enter
7. done?

Nothing is obvious. In my 4-5 years of using Linux Mint I never really used the terminal so I still had to google this ./ because I keep forgetting it. Still, good luck on new OS. In my opinion the best distro for newcomers if you only keep in mind that some of the packages are outdated by few years.

You can close this discussion now if your issue is solved. Just to clean the list :)
