I'm using nanoid 3 in a NestJS project.
After upgrading @tsconfig/node18 from 2.0.1 to 18.2.2 I get the following compile error:

The current file is a CommonJS module whose imports will produce 'require' calls; however, the referenced file is an ECMAScript module and cannot be imported with 'require'. Consider writing a dynamic 'import("nanoid")' call instead.
  To convert this file to an ECMAScript module, change its file extension to '.mts', or add the field `"type": "module"` to '.../package.json'.

It's the only compile error in a project with many dependencies.
Any idea what the issue is and how to fix it?

FWIW, if I replace the above tsconfig.json with the one that comes in a new nest project, the error goes away.

If you are using "module": "commonjs" you need to use Nano ID 3.x (we still support this old version for old environments, but if you need everything new, you should also go to ESM since it is a future of Node.js)

I am using nanoid 3.3.6, and have attempted to update to ESM months ago, but at the time did not seem to be feasible until at least NestJS provides support.
