Since the horses are never adopted by other families, the Kyle’s can ensure the animals will never fall into harms way again. This along with watering, is just one of the chores needed to take care of the horses."></a>

Many of them are seized by animal control or humane societies. Previously, the Kyle’s found a horse on Craig’s List to be sold for $1, or else it would be slaughtered."></a>

This includes getting into the pastures and pens and petting and talking with all of the horses who are comfortable with human contact. Some of the horses at the sanctuary were to badly abuse before coming into the care of the Kyle’s they are too frightened to be touched. "></a>

Inside the stable Jim and the veterinarian Gary discuss the improvement of the one the horses on their watch list. If this improvement continues the Kyle’s will be able to keep the horse in their care. Euthanasia is always a last resort for the sanctuary. "></a>

This facility takes in horses and keeps them at the sanctuary until they pass. Some tasks during the veterinarian visit include working on the horse’s teeth. Floating, is a term that means the filing down of the teeth so the sharp edges don’t cut the inside of the animal’s mouth. The horses are given a mild sedative to calm them and the procedure is painless and only causes a slight vibration in the horse’s mouth. Doing this ensures the horse can eat properly and is a way to prevent their health from declining."></a>

Reba was also given fresh grass as a treat and received lots of attention. The decline of Reba was slow but progressed to a point where it was time to make a decision."></a>

Reba was 30 years old, and had begun to not eat feed and stopped interacting with the other animals. It was because of this both the Kyle's and the veterinarian agreed it was in the best interest of the animal to put her down. Reba was first given a sedative to calm her."></a>

Reba had been on the watch list of the veterinarian and the Kyle’s due to her declining health. Putting the horses down is the last resort for the sanctuary, however it is an unfortunate part of what they have to do. "></a>

Those who are blind eventually pair up with another horse who acts like their guide. Having these bonds is vital to the survival of the animal, who may give up hope of living if they feel alone."></a>

Donna, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, decided that it was time to do what her and her husband had always, wanted open a horse sanctuary. The demand was so high for their services, they had nearly 150 horses when they first opened."></a>

Some of the horses that were taken in were given up by their owners because of the cost, not because of neglect. These tamer horses are wonderful therapy for those in need."></a>
