Version and Environment

  • GSmartControl version: 1.1.4 (from the repo)
  • OS: Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon

Describe the Issue

I can't find a solid answer anywhere else.

I haven't run an Extended Self-Test in ages. My laptop suddenly crashed just now (the kind of crash that stops detecting the plugged charger.)

Estimated duration for Extended Self-Test says 85 minutes so I thought I could run it while I carry on with normal "office" stuff (mostly done on browser). I can't leave it running while I'm away or asleep.

Short Self-Test was fine.

Hi,
Are saying that if you leave your Extended Self-Test unattended, your laptop crashes?
But if you are using the computer, it does not?

Hi. Sorry for the confusion!

The crash was unrelated to GSmartControl, it's something I'm still trying to figure out. It also happens very rarely, the last one of this kind happened 3 years ago! (Same SSD.)

I just intend to run Extended Self-Test as it might give me something...

Thanks!

Generally, you can run a self-test while you're operating the computer. It may prolong it though.

Check the smartctl man page for more info, "-t TEST" section.
