Ok, I got it working -- by blind luck, in fact...
I finally tried with a PC, the Linux x64 version of HyperHDR and fumbling with plug-in/out and the settings. At some point the errors disappeared. That got me thinking and with a copious amount of googling (particularly hyperion-project/hyperion.ng#1135), I found the problem.
Silly me, really : the Leonardo goes to sleep if it doesn't receive a command in the 15 seconds after being plugged in (USB to host).
When I tried with the various raspberry pi, I had to go behind the TV to plug in the hardware, and by the time I got back to the laptop to try some settings or commands, the 15 seconds had elapsed...
