as a reader I want the site to use small assets so that the page loads quickly and I don't use lots of data #31

It’s a nice idea to show a video on top of a data viz screenshot, but to encode this in a gif is a bad idea because it results in huge (>50MB) files that load slowly on the web.

We could come up with alternatives, but as a first step I’d propose to remove the animated videos and use a static image instead.

I'd expect a mechanism that uses low res first which could load into high res once you click or something. I don't understand the "Large files detected" message. It would be helpful to have a more detailed problem description though ;)
