I currently store my snapshots in a dedicated partition on my internal hard drive. I would like to back them up onto a usb stick. However, when I use Krusader to copy them, it does not respect the hardlinks. It copies every file independently, occupying a huge amount of space and taking forever.
Is there a way to make such a backup that will respect the hardlinks?

You are using Krusader. So you should ask the Kursader community not us.
You can also ask the GNU/Linux community in general. The topic is How to copy a bunch of files to another volume without losing hardlinks..
IF you can't find an answer, you can ask other BIT users on the BIT mailing list before going to maintainers.
Check also if the filesystem on the external drive does support hardlinks.
Please keep in mind that we work voluntarily in this project. First try to find answers to your questions via doing some research.
