stuck in evil mode?

c-n c-p no longer work. I get various evil errors. I was finally able to get out by switching to *Messages* (below) and then m-x evil-mode, but that wasn't working in the uri_router.py buffer. This was in my devbox. Any ideas?

Hmm no idea. Is it repeatable?
