We purchased the factory LCD for the soda machine to see if we can change the can/bottle 'type' on the broken soda machine column. Karl believes that it may be configured for bottles, and that this may be the reason that it doesn't always feed properly.
Someone should go in and try to reconfigure that column by hooking up the LCD and reconfiguring accordingly.

That label is a hack job (I did it). I'd consider hooking up the LCD and understanding how that configuration works to still be important. We're just going to let the column be Diet 7up until it bites us again.
The main issue with connecting up the display is that we don't have the wiring harness to connect it to the main vending machine computer. It's only four pins so it shouldn't be hard to reverse-engineer, or you can order the proper wiring harness for hopefully some reasonable amount of money.
