Issues for beginners

We should create isssues that are appropriate for beginners, which only requires small, local changes to the codebase, and are suitably marked with good first issue

Would like to help, but I don't know much about C/C++ and latex, @crlf0710 can you create a core team that can guide the future development of this project?

Personally I still want to reach the point that we can upstream all this changes as soon as possible. I'd like to hear what @pkgw see as blocker here.
