I have several cases confirmed of researchers trying to use this package outside Brazil and not being able to on account of connection issues. Our main hypothesis right now is that the IPs from outside Brazil are being actively blocked by the Brazilian government.
A workaround would be setting up a proxy to these datasets and pointing the package to this proxy.
If there is anyone interested in setting up such a proxy please let me know.

@danicat I've tried to use Datasus FTP win Azure and couldn't connect, so this is the reason. Do you have an example of how to set a proxy to that and access Datasus FTP?
