CRS Team Interface API

Abstract
In the DARPA Cyber Grand Challenge (CGC) Final Event (CFE) each Cyber
Reasoning System (CRS) will communicate with the CFE infrastructure
via a Team Interface. The Team Interface is the only mechanism for
a CRS to provide input to CFE, and also the primary interface for
retrieving data about CFE. For example, the Team Interface API is
used by a CRS to field replacement CBs, to obtain current scores, and
to download IDS rules for consensus evaluation.
This document describes the Team Interface API.

1. Introduction
The API employs HTTP with digest authentication.
Acronyms used throughout this document:
CS - Challenge Set
CSID - Challenge Set ID
CBID - Challenge Binary ID (multi-CB CSs may have more than one)
NNN - a base 10 integer containing at least 1 character
TEAMID - a CFE team identifier
2. Submission of data (HTTP POST)
All HTTP POSTs shall be "Content-Type: multipart/form-data".
POSTs that replace data (as is the case for Fielding new CBs, IDS
rules, etc) will only be accepted for currently installed CSs.
Success codes are returned to the CRS indicating that CFE
infrastructure has received data.
2.1. CBs
Replaces a team's fielded CBs.
Each POST replaces one or more CBs for one CS.
Parameters:
1)Content-Disposition: form-data; name="csid"
the CSID associated with the CB(s) to be replaced
2)Content-Disposition: form-data; name="CBID"; filename="???"
Content-Type: application/octet-stream
the binary contents of the replacement CB
CBID is replaced with the name of the specific CB within the
challenge set to be replaced.
??? is a local filename selected by the CRS which may or may not
be used by the competition infrastructure
For multi-binary challenge sets, multiple files may be uploaded
in a single post

2.2. POVs
Replaces a team's fielded POVs.
Each POST affects a POV associated with one CS and one opponent.
Only CB POVs are accepted (not XML).
Parameters:

the CSID of the CS that POV targets
2)Content-Disposition: form-data; name="team"
ASCII integer of team the pov is meant to target
3)Content-Disposition: form-data; name="throws"
ASCII integer between 0 and MAX_THROWS indicating how many times
CFE infrastructure should throw this PoV per round. The value 0 indicates
the POV should not be thrown.
4)Content-Disposition: form-data; name="file"; filename="???"
Content-Type: application/octet-stream

Replaces a team's fielded IDS rules on the network appliance.
Each post replaces the rules (entire set) associated with one CS.

3. Retrieval of data (HTTP GET)
This is the main mechanism by which a CRS obtains information about
CFE.
3.1. CFE status
CFE status is accessed at /status
This provides feedback about the status of CFE, including the current
round. This is the only indication a CRS has regarding the current
round.

Rank is reported as an integer, lower ranks indicate higher
placing teams.
3.2. Feedback information
Feedback is provided in JSON format on a per-round basis.
Each round is accessible by integer as in /round/NNN/feedback.
3.2.1 POV feedback
POV feedback is accessed at /round/NNN/feedback/pov.
For each POV fielded by the requesting CRS, the status of the POV is
reported as success or fail. All POVs installed during the round
will be present in the feedback.

NNN is an integer between 1 and MAX_THROWS inclusive.
RESULT is "success" or "fail"
3.2.2 CB feedback
CB feedback is accessed at /round/NNN/feedback/cb.
For each instantiation of a fielded CB that terminates as the result
of a delivered signal, the CSID, CBID, exit timestamp, and signal number
shall be provided.
CB exits not resulting from a signal (e.g. non-crashing exits
resulting in an exit code) are not reported to the CRS.

TTTT is a timestamp provided in epoch time as an unsigned integer.
DDD is the integer code associated with the signal
3.2.3 Poll feedback
Poll feedback is accessed at /round/NNN/feedback/poll.
For each active CSID in the reported round, poll feedback is
reported in form of functionality data and performance data.
Functionality data is reported as four percentages, (1) percentage
of successful polls, (2) percentage of polls that failed as a result
of a timeout, (3) percentage of polls that failed because a connect
call failed, (4) percentage of polls that failed because a protocol
functionality. All percentages are reported as whole integers and may
not sum to 100. Remaining polls are considered to have failed due to
unspecified reasons including functional incorrectness.
Performance information is reported as two values, (1) a memory
measurement and (2) a time measurement. These values are reported as
percentages relative to the corresponding measurement taken on the
reference CB where a reported result of 100 represents behavior
identical to the reference CB.

NNN is an integer between 0 and 100, reflecting percentage.
The sum of the values of NNN in a single functionality tuple will
be <= 100.
MMM is an integer >= 0, reflecting percentage compared to a
reference CB.
3.3. Consensus evaluation
Items for consensus evaluation are provided in JSON format on a
per-round basis.
The format for the consensus URI is:
/round/NNN/evaluation/COMPONENT/TEAMID
using the following values:
* NNN is the round number
* COMPONENT is the item requested (ids or cb)
* TEAMID is the team number of the requested information
URIs for evaluation items shall point into the /dl directory (on
the Team Interface server) which contain the required files.

3.3.1 CB consensus evaluation
CB evaluation items accessed at /round/NNN/evaluation/cb/TEAMID
Provides URL where CBs fielded by team identified by TEAMID may be
downloaded. For multi-cb CSs, each CB is listed.
