Steps to reproduce

  1. Got push notif
  2. Opened room to read it; sss doesn’t update
  3. Went out to room list
  4. Filtered room list
  5. Tried to go back into another room
  6. Nothing happened

reliable msg receipt and ability to open rooms

this happened after #3403; i think the two are related given i just had it again with another room.
