ORCID authentication could be integrated similar to the ORCID integration in xPub.

It is using the npm modules (passport)[https://www.npmjs.com/package/passport] and (passport-orcid)[https://www.npmjs.com/package/passport-orcid]. The server side can be implemented similar to xPub's orcid.js

Update: better use the profiles service
