Do we need to apply transformation on our data

It is something I try to search on the documentation, but at no moment I see it clearly if I need to apply transformation on my data before passing it to my model.

This question raises as I was looking at the model configuration of a pretrained model and saw some transformation there. Could you tell me if it is necessary? Also, could it be more explicit in the documentation.
