Yes, I'm working on the book thumbnails as part of a bigger book overhaul. The inline images you've referenced above also bother me because they mess with the line height of the text. I'm sure we could come up with a nicer looking solution, or as you say, we could just remove them. They add a little bit of visual interest, but not much else. |

I think they do add real visual interest and immediate recognition if the resolution problems can be fixed. |

The site is currently full of small thumbnails with pretty bad quality that just look off on high-res displays. I'm not sure what was the reasoning behind them, but I think we're better off without them. E.g.:
I think this partially applies to the book thumbnails as well - probably those should be a lot bigger to make sense (and look better).
