Welcome to the gamma-sky.net wiki!

Here you will find the full documentation to our website, http://gamma-sky.net.

Overview

gamma-sky.net is a novel interactive website designed for exploring the gamma-ray sky.

It is designed for professional astronomers and the general public alike.

We've organized catalog data tables from gamma-ray sources and pinpointed them onto a three-dimensional sky map. This interconnection between tables and images allows for easily navigating the sky and comparing data across various catalogs. Our website allows users to quickly browse or deeply investigate a source.

###Open-source, open-data

We have made all of our data, from catalogs to images, freely available to everyone. Our content is downloadable from our webpage. (To be implemented)

# Features
  • Gamma-ray images displayed on a sphere visualization

  • Pan and zoom features

  • Powerful search tools to locate objects by name, association or coordinate position

  • Export and share a specific view of the sky map

  • Informative pop-ups over each plot for quick browsing

# Data

The resource incorporates high-energy survey images and catalog information generated with Python scripts. We are currently using data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT), specifically the 3FGL and 2FHL catalogs.
