Spring Hackathon

-

On April 21st and 22nd we’ll be holding our second Hackathon. Thanks to our sponsor Enova the winning team members will each receive a MacBook Air. Winners also have the opportunity to speak at TEDxUChicago.

Winter Hackathon

+

On January 18th and 19th we’ll be holding our third Hackathon. This event will be a little different than the first 2, as the focus is going to be anything but a webapp. Feel free to write libraries, servers, software, etc. But the web browser can only be used as a UI. Ask this question: Can i build it as a rails app? If yes, then it's time to rethink what you're building.

+

The (un)Hackathon will be a time to try and learn something new and do something different. If it can be done with MVC, then do something else.

What is a (un)Hackathon?

+
+
+

A hackathon is a two-day event devoted to collaborative creation and coding. Over 48 hours, hackers pitch ideas, form groups, and build something awesome. Whether it’s a website, a mobile app, a flying computer, or an emotionally inept robot, if you find people who share your vision, you’ll get it done. No need for fancy presentations or polish: Just build.

We will be holding an (un)Hackathon the second week of winter quarter. (Un)Hackathon means no web apps. Feel free to write libraries, servers, software, etc. But the web browser can only be used as a UI. Ask this question: Can i build it as a rails app? If yes, then it's time to rethink what you're building.

hack@uchicago’s Hackathon

+

First things first, you should RSVP so we can get a head count for food, drinks, &c. On Saturday, April 22nd come to the 4th floor of Ryerson at noon. Please note that the 4th floor of Ryerson will be locked—you must RSVP so that we can expect you. You’ll also need somewhere to stay overnight (sorry, University policy), but otherwise all the hacking will happen in Ryerson.

Here’s a rough schedule:

+
    +
  • +

Team Up — You’re free to start hacking alone, but you might want a team first. If you don’t already have anyone in mind, don’t worry; we’ll help you find other hackers to work with.

    +
  • +
  • +

Start Hacking — Start working that /app/algorithm/robot/robo-maid you’ve been dreaming up. We’ll provide the food and drinks, you provide the projects. If you think you’ll need anything in particular (electronics, data, fume hood…) just let us know ahead of time.

    +
  • +
  • +

Demo — Sunday evening (the 22nd) we’ll wrap everything up and start the demos in the Harper Center. Impress the judges and there’s a MacBook Air with your name on it.
