Description

Yesterday, I switched from The App That Shall Not Be Named to Ice, and I'm really happy overall. It has all the functionality I need and feels much snappier, especially when using the Search Menu Bar Items feature.

However, there's one issue that is quite problematic for me, related to the Display Zoom functionality in macOS. I have a visual impairment and rely heavily on this feature (Ctrl + / - or Ctrl + Mousewheel). I noticed that when Ice is active and my screen is zoomed in, the mouse pointer sometimes jumps to the top left corner of the screen and back, but this changes the position of the zoomed in portion of the screen (which is quite jarring).

I assume this is related to screen recording or the rearrangement of icons, and actually, I remember reporting this bug to the developers of That Other App in the past, and they were so kind to fix it. The solution was quite simple, I remember: whenever Display Zoom is active, the code causing the cursor to momentarily move the cursor to the menu bar (and back) is simply temporarily disabled.

Maybe you could consider implementing such a feature in Ice too? I would love that.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Activate Zoom in System Settings under Accessibility
  2. Make sure your screen is zoomed in. It doesn't matter what the zoom level is. But the effect is more jarring. The higher the zoom factor.
  3. Make sure ice has something to do. I'm not sure what ice makes do its magic, so I have added screenshots of my general and advanced settings.
  4. Just use your Mac for a while. It's gonna be really hard to trigger. And I'm sorry but I cannot really tell you when exactly it happens.
