Copy paste of single cell not working

My setup: macOS 10.11.6, Jupyter 5.0, Chrome 60.

Copy paste of multiple cells between notebooks works (Cmd-C, Cmd-V).
By the way, this is very useful functionality.

But copy paste between notebooks of a single cell fails (miserably).

Sometimes something does get 'inserted', but that is only text that is inserted into an already existing cell.
On other occasions, nothing seems to happen.

Note: copying and pasting are done in command mode.

I have tested copying and pasting a single cell and multiple cells across notebooks and it works as expected. My steps:

1. Select 1 or more cells by clicking on their left side-panel (holding SHIFT to select multiple)
2. Copy on macOS using CMD+C
3. Switch tabs to another notebook
4. Paste by selecting a cell (clicking the left side-panel of the cell) to paste above using CMD+V.

There are caveats of clipboard or copying history no getting cleared up. Lets say in my destination notebook, I have done some copy-paste operation for cells. After that I try to copy from another source notebook to this existing destination notebook, then, the cells that were copy-pasted in destination notebook gets pasted again instead of the source ones.

Furthermore, I do not know a way to clear this history from notebook. I am running notebook server on Windows 7 and server version is 5.4.0. I am hoping this is one of the latest versions.

This sounds legitimate but we are stretched pretty thin in terms of resources dedicated to classic notebook development, so I won't have time to work on this. If either of you have Javascript experience, perhaps you could give it a try? The clipboard code is located at https://github.com/jupyter/notebook/blob/master/notebook/static/notebook/js/clipboard.js.
