Describe the solution you'd like
I have a smart plug which measures power usage and exposes it via a local API. When the reading is above a certain wattage, the connected device can be considered "on", and similar for "off".
It would be great if this piece of information could be used to determine the on/off status of the device.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Given the nature of uni-directional communication of IR remote controls, the device's on/off status is not always accurate. The existing ping/ARP method requires LAN/WLAN capability on the device, which many simply do not have.
Additional context
I already have a working prototype.
