Describe the bug.

I go to the Twine website to download the application. Because I have an HP Laptop, I pick the Twine-2.8.1-Windows.exe version. I install the application, click run. However whenever I run it and try to navigate it, (although the program is open and accesible) I keep getting an Error Message saying "Something went wrong while saving a settings file" Then it gives me code: EBADF: bad file descriptor, write

Steps to reproduce:

Go to Twine Website->Download Desktop App->Twine-2.8.1-Windows.exe->Install->Error Code after opening up the application

Expected behavior:

The expected behavior is that no error message should appear when using the Twine Desktop application

Additional context on this problem.

No response

Twine version number

2.8.1

Does this problem occur with the web version of Twine or the desktop app?

Desktop app

What operating system does this problem occur on?

None

Presubmission checklist

  • I have done a search and believe that an issue does not already exist for this bug in the GitHub repository.
  • If this problem is occurring with the app version of Twine, it still happens after I remove the user.css file from my Twine folder. (You would've added this file yourself. If you don't understand this question, you can safely check this box.)

I haven't seen this problem before so I'm not sure as to what causes it, but some basic research says it might be antivirus software blocking Twine. If you have any installed, are there settings you could try changing to unblock it?

Twine Error Code

Thanks for replying back to me. Web Twine has been amazing and I love it. The Desktop app however not so much. I now have a new error code when using 2.7.1 because 2.8.1 is broken for me

I am using Windows 11, which is saved to my HP Laptop's hard drive. I also tried it on my external memory and neither one works. I've "uninstalled it" (for some reason my computer says it doesn't exist so IDK). I have had better luck with version 2.7.1 but I still get error codes (albeit less).

For some reason, it keeps going into my AppData>Roaming and then it glitches there. I have copied and pasted the file into my Local and it doesn't work either. Anything you can do helps.
1.4.1 works perfectly fine for me.

I've heard of other Windows users having this problem but I'm not sure what causes it, or 100% how to fix it. One possible fix is to delete the Twine folder holding app prefs (directions here -- but delete the entire folder named Twine under AppData > Roaming instead of just the prefs.json file). Twine will try to recreate it the next time it runs.
