It seems it has a little conflict if you are using the categories plugin instead of the ticks

In my case:

Plugin categories activated
CanvasText activated

Result:

Duplicated text

I solved it this way:
if (options.grid.canvasText.labels) {
placeholder.find(".tickLabel").remove();
plot.insertLabelsCanvasText(ctx);
}

I suppose this would be best to be a pull request, but Im a little newbie on github :P
