Especially in mid/end game, and especially when spectating it's tough to know who's white and who is black.
Is there any apprehension to having piece captures be white or black. I don't see any good reason to not do so.
I also have an older ticket about reflecting your side with the clock #822. When it's not your turn the clock is dimmed to background color. But when it is your turn the clock to turn bright black or bright white depending on your side

why not have piece differential be black/white colored pieces rather than uniform?
