tons of errors from 'tap' in logs

[pdeva]

using linkerd 2.12

we are frequently seeing errors from tap in our logs.
msgs like:

2023/04/21 22:19:31 http2: server connection error from 10.0.48.84:38566: connection error: PROTOCOL_ERROR
2023/04/21 20:24:58 http: TLS handshake error from 10.0.60.225:56242: EOF

How do we go about fixing this? I am completely lost?
