In this presentation, I will discuss how I'm using Node.js along with my domestic solar and battery system to automate and optimise grid electricity usage and therefore minimise my energy costs - something that's very topical given the UK's ridiculously high energy costs.

Along the way I'll explain the technologies involved, the services, tariffs and APIs that are used, and take a look at how such domestic setups and automation are a little-understood, but extremely practical and surprisingly cost-effective solution to the country as a whole achieving its Net Zero ambitions.

I'm a director at MGateway Ltd, and have been working in IT since the 1980s and involved in the Node.js development community since its early days in 2011. I have given a number of talks at LNUG over the years: in fact I was a speaker at its inaugural meeting, and a speaker at the last meeting before Covid lockdown!

  • [ X] I confirm that I will abide by the Code of Conduct

  • [ X] I confirm my talk is 20 mins long in total.

** actually I'd love to make this a longer slot as there's a lot of background information on the energy market that I think many would find interesting that I could include given more time, but I'll limit to 20 minutes if necessary :-) **
