How best to format all API routes?

I have a frontend that wants to consume API data like this

{
 data: { my_keys: my_vals },
 type: "success",
 status: 200
}

I am currently using this in multiple controllers

    format::json("{data: {message: 'hello'}, type: 'success', status: 200}")

There must be a better way to handle this?
