Grab the image when code found

I have several QR codes with an encoded ISO-8859-1 string inside with awful characters (base64 was not used when codes were generated). My biggest problem is that none of the javascript decoders can handle the decoded string, as all of them use utf-8 naturally.

1. One way is if the image decoder could return the decoded char codes as well, not only the decoded text.
2. Other way is to send the frame, the camera image when QR was found to a backend, as on PHP base I could decode an image and get the ISO-8859-1 string to decode it to the original string.

Do you see any chance to achieve one of these two solutions?

I have made the 2nd option:
as soon as a code was found, I grab a frame from the canvas like this: document.getElementById("qr-canvas").toDataURL('image/png')
This is a base64 encoded image, so passing it via ajax is easily possible, I decode it at PHP side to get back the PNG image (QR), from which it can decode the ISO-8859-2 string.
