Changing the character used for masking passwords ?

Is there a way to specify a different character (for e.g. "•") for masking password inputs?
Currently it just uses *

Currently, there is no way to change this, it simply replaces every character by *. I guess one workaround would be to make a custom font that only contains the glyph you want for this character, and set that on input password fields.
