Finally, I can share my two picks for the really, really good websites.

My first choice is Woven Magazine

  • The Purpose: web visitors are looking to engage in stories of artists and craftsmen who have courageous journeys to share (within the framework of their artwork). The designers of Woven Magazine's website have effectively made this experience possible through a clean layout, logical page navigation, and images that help distinguish their mission and brand.

  • Intuitive Navigation: large images cover the screen for each story shown. Very simple "next" and "prev" buttons vertically positioned on each edge of the image denote a page turning and therefore a new story (just as if we were to flip through a magazine in reality).

  • Size of Typefaces (and other navigational tools): A magazine like Woven has the goal of showcasing the artist's work as a segue or introduction to their written story. They do a wonderful job of keeping the focus on the actual work rather than use other elements of the page to distract viewers.

Overall, I love the simplicity of this site and it serves it's purpose through effective design principles and a user-friendly interface.
