Resolve event platform strategy #392
Comments
I discovered this today. I've emailed and Slacked the fellow. |
The fellow has removed all the events on Meetup which is good... and also removed the redirect to Eventbrite that I put in the Meetup description in September. Did not receive any response from him when I initially reached out at the beginning of December |
Deprioritized for now, since Jan-March became very busy |
Aslan called the fellow today, and the fellow refused to hand back the reins. We will go the [email protected] route |
We have 2mo on the clock. Need to figure out transition plan |
If the work of maintaining the Meetup does not fall on Liani's shoulders, then the only issue here is money right? Which they do have a free starter plan. I think there's a lot of social capital here we shouldn't leave on the table. If we were to do a full transition I think it would be good to have some of that actually demonstrated in numbers. What's our stats for Eventbrite versus Meetup etc. And that might need more than 2 months to really get solid numbers on. |
Can I be removed from these emails?

@hlupico if you're talking about the Open Austin newsletter, please submit an subscribe/unsubscribe request. If you're talking about GH notifications, here's a GH doc on changing your personal settings |
@jcklpe i renamed the ticket title. also, I put a draft transition plan in the ticket body. What do you think? Plis feel free to change it however u see fit. I'm happy to divvy up any of the transition responsibilities too, just lmk |
@lianilychee I've asked in the past that we make an actual case for the transition before making the decision either way and I don't think that case has been made. Your outline above assumes this as a forgone conclusion. |
My bad, I'm going off the latest you wrote on the discord group chat, "let's just get some time owning meetup, and we'll figure out next steps later" so I wrote/asked opinion for next steps Let me know where your heads at then |
I've created a survey for us to send out over various channels to get people's preferences in terms of platform: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1gRbrsHy1FrPc16M_sJpwUhQTn3uEl9HdvMkDAX-3kvs/preview |
out of curiousity are we able to get emails from meetup? |
@lianilychee It looks like we can but no emails are attached. It looks maybe it can with a Pro account but not sure: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/meetup-download-member-contact-TTXex9ejQ5ysjPJjKpwj1A |
@lianilychee Could you share those photos you took of the event platform participation at the March CoP, perhaps to the google drive? |
@jcklpe , sure thing, which directory do u recommend?
Alternatiely, what do u think of Google Photos instead of Drive to leverage their searching and tagging? We can handle through the admin account |
@lianilychee I was talking about the specific photos related to people's feedback on the event platform strategy. I think that issue should go under Practices / Design. Photos that are general parts of our PR, helping build a backlog of photos of people at events and stuff, should probably go in a Photos folder as you suggested. I'm down for google photos. I haven't used it extensively myself. |
event platform photos - done google photos thru the admin@ account - done |
