Thank you for your interest to contribute to the OpenTelemetry Website & Documentation.

Since we (the maintainers) understand, that picking an issue to work on from the list of all issues is overwhelming, we provide a lists of curated issues below. We think they are a good choice for a first issue and/or add the most value to our project.

Good First Issue

By filtering issues with the label good first issue you get a list of issues for beginners:

https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry.io/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+sort%3Aupdated-desc+label%3A%22good+first+issue%22

As a newcomer take a look at these first and if you identify one to your liking, comment on that issue that you want to help with the effort (Note: We are not assigning issues, so we will acknowledge your comment and you are good to go)

Meta Issues: Help Wanted!

We are currently in a progress of creating consistency and a level of standardization across language-specific documentations. This helps us to simplify maintenance and provide a more equal level of quality across languages. We have compiled a list of meta issues where you can help with this effort:

https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry.io/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+sort%3Aupdated-desc+label%3A%22help+wanted%22+label%3A%220-meta%22

Again, take a look at those issues, pick your language & section and let us know that you are interested to help

Collector Documentation

There are a few issues that contribute towards the OpenTelemetry Collector documentation. Those issues are often well-scoped and easy to tackle:

https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry.io/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+sort%3Aupdated-desc+label%3A%22help+wanted%22+label%3A%22sig%3Acollector%22

Loving the collector notice. I took off too big of a chunk earlier this year but want to partition my scratch notes out, here's the unmergeable-as-is WIP

I also have an issue open on collector-contrib side w.r.t improving collector docs, but I'd note that many things (such as where mdatagen lives) is in flux

There's also some collector upstream docs which I wonder if we could inject/include into the opentelemetry.io site
