Audio volume inconsistent #3498
Comments
I don't use that plugin, or I don't know that I'm using it.
Anyway, my box don't crash on channel change.
May I fill a bug report also on that plugin ?
Thanks

…The biggest issue with the audio recently is that something recently
broke the AutoVolumeAdjustment plugin in ATV. This is an OE-A plugin
and it used to work great in ATV but now it crashes the box upon every
channel change.
This plugin used to address all users audio issues as it set and
remembered the volume level for every single individual channel. It is
greatly missed and would have fixed the original posters issues too if
it still worked in ATV.

Do you have tested the latest build of ATV 7.4? |
I will try tomorrow afternoon.
I will install a fresh 7.4 image and check the volume behavior.
I'll report asap.

set every single channel offset to ear something at appropriate level.
Can you fix this ? I mean in version 7.4 things works flawlessy...

I'm asking because the volume changes of 7.5 are also in 7.4.

Ok, I'm using openatv 7.4 2025/01/9
The issue is with channel both scripted and fta.
If audio is AC3, and default setting is +50 it works fine, without setting individual volume preset.
If audio is MPEG volume is low, but not as low as in 7.5.1
This behavior is from SAT and DVB-T too.
If you need more information ask.

Try the AutoVolumeAdjust plugin from the other thread. |
If @fbolzoni , hasn't used the AutoVolumeAdjust before then why should this plugin fixed the issue? |
It wouldnt fix the issue, however it would automatically equalize his volume on all channels so he didn't have to keep adjusting the volume when its low. Using the plugin would just be a tempory solution to help him till the issue is fixed. |
My problem is. What cause this issue and since when? |
Hello @fbolzoni , please make one more test. What I understand is: You switch from channel a to channel b and the audio track is also switching from ac3 to mpeg and this cause different volume output but the volume level number will not changed. |
DOne yesterday, clen 7.4 image with just cypher+ helper as i use TVSAT
card+ cam.
If i watch a channel with AC3 audio, i can listen clearly. If I switch to
an mpeg channel audio lower it's volume.
Of course i don't modify any volume setting by remote.
Hope this is clear.

Install a clean 7.4 image that means no settings restore.
Then only add your bouquets and test again.

Is that correct?

Can you do that again with ATV 7.3 .. just to be clear. |
I can't understand, where the problem is. |
Well, as I told before, audio level aren the same switching channel and on the fresh install of 7.5.1 are too much low as I must out my soundbar at max vol to ear something.
And the receiver volume, set with remote key vol+, is of course 100%
The down mix are all set to ON.
Now if there is a place where I can increase the volume, for ALL channel, to 50 to 100 like I can do for each channel in VOLUME ADJUST menu voic, let me know and I will be really happy.
Otherwise, if isn't a bug, I will add every single channel into VOLUME ADJUST, but look like it's a really silly thing...

AC3 and DTS normally when not downmixed give 100% level as broadcasted.
In earlier times the default box audio level was set to 50%. That had
to be enlarged to 100%, to get similar volume for mpeg audio. Nowadays
in the new images this default box audio level was defined to 20%. Of
course, that value also has to be enlarged to 100% again, to get the
same volume as in former times. We also had a huge diskussion in the
team, because the broadcasting companies may have changed the namng and
order preferences of the audio tracks. That can lead to now hearing
another default audio track than before. The behavior could be also
affected by code rewritings in the image additional.
If someone forewards the audio keys of the remote to the TV/AVR, in
former times it was not easy to adjust the audio level of the box
itself. Now there is an additional menu point in the audio menu /key
AUDIO or YELLOW), where it aperars, when the VOL+/- keys are
forewarded.
That all are global settings.

Hi Francesco, A value of 0 means that your receiver is outputting its audio at maximum volume available. Have you checked all the cabling in the audio path as well as the audio levels on the soundbar and TV? Do you use HDMI-CEC for device control? As a test, can you simplify the interconnections, perhaps plug the receiver directly into the TV via HDMI and leave out the soundbar, for now, and see how it sounds. Remember to enable the TV sound and check the TV sound volume. If that works well then try adding back the soundbar. If not, try turning off HDMI-CEC and seeing if that changes things in your simple configuration. Let us know how you go. Regards, |

Hi Francesco,
A value of 0 means that your receiver is outputting its audio at

And with that value audio is OK.
My question is WHY the value vary from 63 to 0 with other channel ? I
mean the channel that is not into list of VOLUME ADJUST module ?
There is a way to puo 0 into that variable ?
Have you checked all the cabling in the audio path as well as the

Audio path is ok, if i revert image to 7.4 it works fine.
Audio path is a little complicated but work (audio start from sta
reciver to TV via HDMI cable, than from TV to soundbar via optical cable.)
Yes I use HMI-CEC to turn on and off tv.
I'll give it a try disabling HDMI-CEC to see if volume stay at 0 (or
near to 0 level).
Thanks for suggestion.

Hi Francesco, A value of 0 means that the receiver is outputting the signal at its maximum level. This number is not a volume level but an attenuation level. The bigger the value the lower the volume. If the value is 0 then there is no software or plugins or settings that are causing the volume to be reduced. This number is coming from the hardware/drivers. You need to look for the issue elsewhere. I have suggested HDMI-CEC or cables and connections as other places to look. If you have cleared these areas then I have nothing more to suggest. The fact that you seem to be experiencing differences and difficulties when you change the OpenATV version implies to me that there may be an issue in the HDMI-CEC area. You will need to check this very carefully. HDMI-CEC is not an area of the code with which I have any experience. Regards, |
