Sharing tabs and note sheets

Hi all

It would be extremely useful if tabs and note sheets could be shared to chosen (f.ex. solo-marked) participants on some form f.ex. in chat window. Could that be possible?

I think that the current method is sharing links. That's way more flexible.

I'm sorry to say that I don't think it's going to happen.

The philosophy of Jamulus is to be simple. Having a lot of features would make the program more difficult to use.

I fully agree keeping application simply and robust. Jamulus has really proved such one, so respects for that.

Still, sharing notes is essential, and sharing collection of notes easy with net boxes etc bit cumbersome. So what would be simple, robust and suitable way of sharing note sheets while playing together?

Could a solution picking and sharing screenshot clips into a separate chat-like window be such a simple and robust way? No plethora of broblems to share many different file types, such as mounting up samba, nfs or http file shares.

The note box display could consist of two a4 pages but could store and share multiple note pages to allowed participants, to be scrolled realtime by one of participants while playing proceeds. At start of loading to sheet box, name of new note sheet pages could be given, and pages could be stored f.ex in jpg-format to participants local Jamulus sheet collection simply by pushing store button, if wanted.

Note sheet page scroller applications seem to be quite expensive solutions, this one not. So, what would you think about this idea?

I think usually people use something like Jitsi/Zoom/direct link to the source.

Also there's a question if you have/need a license for the shared piece.

In two of my sessions we use Google drive/docs and we simply share links to them. We can open/edit them in a browser, or download them and open them with an application of our choice. We use Jitsi for video (mic disabled).

Hi folks,

We have used Whatsapp to deliver notes, but some (Mac user f.e.) do not have it on their PCs. Some musicians are just not keen and skilled PC users.

My suggestion was considered to be a minimum PC skills requiring way to deliver notes real timed. Someone of group needs a file viewer for his note sheet file, take screenshot clips of every page and push paste button onto note sheet window. Other plyers would just need to push show note -button (if they will see it). No any other software would be needeed to do the job. Would that be just the easiest and simliest imaginable way to do it, both for players and also for programmers?

I think, such a common note sheet delivery and scrolling viewer app would be remarkable competitive advantage for Jamulus, no other package is offering that.

Hi Jo,
My problem with putting something like you suggest into Jamulus is that I play music with several groups, most of them not using Jamulus. A music reader program like MobileSheets hooked up to cloud storage (dropbox or such) is used for all my groups, online or not.
I don't know about other programs, but MobileSheets costs at last look $16, not what you could call expensive, and it covers all needs and is available for PC/MAC/Android.
We should not use our time to reinvent the wheel when excellent inexpensive solutions already exist.

Actually, I was not reinventing a wheel but instead a wagon with basic wheels ready assembled, so that users didn't have to buy and assemble those each one separately. I am feeling a bit sad that Jamulus developers do not see that in the same way.

As a music reader program MobileSheets seemed good and really affordable, and other same kind seemed to exist when just seeked with right keyword. But, those are bare wheels, not ready-made wagon mandatory basic wheels included...

Jamulus's stereo audio streams are working well as such, but if you will focus on it, adding more audio streams could be of some interest, to allow a bit better balance control.

Jamulus is coming from a world where you have to remember one thing. In the free software world, anyone will say do one thing and do it well. The only way to add a wagon is to code this new fonctionnality yourself, fork and promote your idea.
In this way, Jamulus developpers will continue to maintain the actual way that Jamulus works (great anyway) and you will maintain your brick in the wall or wagon on the train.

I understand your point, reprogramming all the functionality of Mobilesheets and corresponding products into Jamulus is not rational. I see Jamulus and its capabilities from one kind of user's viewpoint, ultimate simple built-in sheetsharing capability would be useful and easy option to me and my group. Other kind of users and groups might naturally regard other kind, maybe more comprehensive solutions.

This was just one development idea to be used or rejected, yours choice. My programming capabilities are outdated, programming self is not realistic option I might try discuss about the workload with a friend professional. If the idea is so easily implemented as I think the product does not have to be integrated with Jamulus at all.
