Describe the idea

On my pixel 9 pro using GrapheneOS, osmand version 4.9.10 from f-droid, rotating the phone to landscape mode reveals a pretty big black bar till just under the camera cutout, consequantly losing some much appreciated screen estate, espacially for a navigation app.

I'm not a developer, but i vaguely remember reading somewhere that since android 15 or something, apps needed to implement some code to enable true full screen in landscape. I could be wrong here though...

Expected behaviour

While rotating device orientation to landscape, utilizing true full screen, without the big black bar which reaches just under the camera cutout.

Alternatives you've considered

I tend to use osmand and organic maps for different purposes, mostly i'm using osmand as it is much more feature rich. However the implementation of full screen on organic maps is done right and uses the full screen estate.

I've quickly looked it up and perhaps https://developer.android.com/develop/ui/views/layout/edge-to-edge might be relevant, however on default orientation it seems the screen already is edge-to-edge (desplaying map even behind statusbar). So not sure what the issue would be in landscape in this case.

Some pictures to better describe the issue;

  • In landscape mode resulting in mentioned issue
  • On portrait mode, everything as it should be edge-to-edge

The bug has been reproduced.

  • Tested on OnePlus Nord CE 3 with OsmAnd in landscape mode.
  • Observed the same black bar below the camera cutout, reducing screen space.
  • In portrait mode, the app correctly uses the entire screen edge-to-edge.
