The community page could use a little love. I hope to work on this over the next couple of weeks. This is just a dumping ground for me to list things I want to do:

  • Add mention of TPF Slack channel (is there an easy way to join?)
  • Update (or, probably remove) mention of YAPC Europe Foundation
  • Add other missing communities (Facebook, Reddit, P5P, StackOverflow...)
  • Is there anything on Discord?
  • Mention useful accounts on Mastodon/Bluesky/Threads/Instagram/...

This is a really good initiative! Thanks for doing this.

Here's a few additions/comments:

  • pm.org is quite a bit out of sync with reality, but since there are still active groups, and some merely dormant ones, I think it still has a role to play in these communities. I'd love to see @jhannah and anyone else who has tuits to help shine up these pages before FOSDEM 2025
  • I think the Perl Toolchain Gang would fit in here. While this community is rather closed and tight-knit, it HAS had mostly regular events (the Perl Toolchain Summit, née QA Hackathon) since 2008. While it doesn't have a "page" beyond it's github group, some of the members have publicized ways to join it. I guess @book may have some opinions on this? :-)
  • Additionally, the CPAN Security Group (an outcrop of the PTS) may be a worthwhile addition. It does have a homepage.
  • I think that this list would also benefit from communities around CPAN distros
  • I know there's been work on setting up a Perl community Matrix server; @ilmari and @stigtsp may be reached/worth contacting to see if they are ready for some public visibility. Currently (afaik) there's just a "General" channel there, plus CPANSec's two channels (linked to from their website).
  • @simcop2387 has been experimenting with setting up a Friendica instance for Perl communities. Maybe worth reaching out to him to see if he'd like some visibility?

The Perl Toolchain Gang and the Perl Toolchain Summit are separate (but obviously connected) organisations.

I only really know about the Summit.

I think we talked a while a ago about adding The Weekly Newsletter to the mailing lists sections?

The Weekly Newsletter is a great source of "catch up on last week's Perl news" for all those who do not have the time to gather news on all the other social networks.

  • Is there anything on Discord?

https://discord.gg/Mnbj6th

It was announced originally on Reddit and maybe on other channels.

There is Perl group on LinkedIn as well as #perl on libera.chat and, of course, irc.perl.org

Right now you need an invitation to join TPRF Slack. I am now an admin, so I can hand out invitations. Not sure if we have a better way to handle this.

I would probably mention StackOverflow as well.

It would be nice to list the upcoming conference in 2025.
