Thank you for providing such an extensive guide for Quarto! I have come to appreciate it a lot while learning how to publish my first book project. I also want to suggest two improvements to the guide page for publishing with GitHub Pages.
I have found the mention of a
_publish.yml
configuration file in the paragraph about the publish action for rendering without executing code (i.e. making use of the_freeze
folder) to be somewhat confusing. To my understanding, the_publish.yml
file was never created when running thequarto publish gh-pages
command and it does not seem to be needed either. Instead, this seems to be the case (and needed) when publishing withquarto publish netlify
.For the same section about publishing with GitHub Actions without executing code I want to suggest a mention that implementing the suggested
publish.yml
without dependencies only works for some output types. For example, an RMarkdown dependency is needed when rendering to PDF, as this is used by Quarto for this output type. This can throw an unexpected error when someone renders their project to both, HTML and PDF, with GitHub Actions (for example). I think this was also the initial cause for this discussion post in the Posit Community.Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.
