Meetup.com API has stopped working

The Meetup.com API we were using (see this) has stopped working and now our website doesn't show upcoming meetups. This old Meetup.com API has not been documented for some time. They have a new API based on GraphQL but it requires authentication and requires upgrading/paying for "Meetup Pro". The old API was wide open and didn't require any authentication.

The Python Software Foundation (PSF) has an agreement with Meetup and covers our meetup fees. We are on what the PSF has called the "PSF Meetup Pro Network". I'm not sure whether we should have API access as part of this. I have contacted both Meetup and the PSF to clarify as I'd like to get our upcoming meetups back on the website. I'll update this ticket when I hear something and what our options are.

Meetup wants us to upgrade to "Pro"

Meetup support confirmed that individuals need a Meetup Pro subscription to access the API:

Access to the Pro API is granted only to accounts that own an active Meetup Pro subscription, regardless of the group’s affiliation. Being listed as a Co-Organizer or part of a Pro Network does not automatically grant API access unless your individual account holds a paid Pro plan.

If you'd like access, the next step would be to start a Pro subscription under your account.

This feels pretty bad. $55/mo to get the upcoming events on the website seems like paying a lot for relatively little.

My contact at the PSF sent a positive note this morning:

Nina let us know that there was a mistake on the Meetup support side and you should have access to the API stuff now. Would you let us know if that is not the case?

(Nina is the Meetup support contact specific for Meetup's Pro Network and works with the PSF on Meetup related things).

I do not currently have access as far as I can see. I still see the same "upgrade to unlock" as in the screenshot above. However, this is a positive development and hopefully we can get this worked out.

Meetup contacted me and I am now able to get an API key. Counterintuitively, however, it looks like it is possible to simply query a meetup's events without the key. This doesn't appear to be documented.
