Add the Sleep/Breath Animation to the Animation List for Slash Lighting?

New to the ghelper community!

I’ve been wanting a "breath" animation for my Zephyrus G16 (2024) ever since I got it last year, but all the options Armory Crate offers are just too flashy for my taste. Later, I heard that ghelper supports a static animation, which sounded appealing (though not perfect), so I decided to give ghelper a try.

One day, I left my G16 on the desk, and it went into sleep mode. When I came back, I noticed that the slash lighting was actually breathing—gradually transitioning from dim to bright and back to dim. I initially thought this was a feature of ghelper, and I was so excited and grateful for trying it out! However, after browsing through this community and the internet, I realized that this "breathing" effect only happens when the laptop is in sleep mode.

@seerge, I was wondering if you’d consider adding this sleep animation as a normal option in the animation list, like the one shown below:

Alternatively, could it be added as a customizable option via something like this: https://github.com/seerge/g-helper/wiki/Power-user-settings#slash-lighting-sleep-animation-on-lid-close? That way, users like me who love this animation could manually add it to our local ghelper setup.

Just a thought, but I’d truly appreciate it if this could become a feature. Thanks so much for your hard work!

@KarutaSama hello, I'm afraid that's not possible. Sleep animation (breathing) is fully baked into firmware. You can either have it ON or OFF.

That’s unfortunate. Is there any way I could program a similar animation into ghelper or directly on my computer?

@KarutaSama ok, I think I have misunderstood you. If you want just blinking animation to be pushed on software level while laptop is awake - it could be possible :) But honestly it's quite a lot of hassle to add as currently the only "software" mode - is static. I might think about it in future tho.

There is method in an app that lets you set a custom pattern of lights at any moment

So technically you will need to run a timer and set custom patters on the fly

Yes! I just want the breathing (pardon me for preferring calling it breath over blink) animation when the laptop is awake. I wouldn't want to pressure you into helping me implement the animation, but gosh, this is one of those times when I wish I knew more about coding! ;)

So if I set up a timer, can I still use the "FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF" to setup the brightness of it?

@KarutaSama yes, or you can just adjust brightness by lowering white-levels in array itself (it's a hex value). So FF is maximum, something like AA - would be lower, and 00 - total off.

There is also another request to add a Sonic Match (i.e. audio visualization) for Slash Lighting similar to what AC does. I might do them both somewhere in the future.

Especially considering that Slash Lighting most likely stays in 2025 models too

@seerge Hoorayyy! Thank you so much! Before then, I should just try to understand the code better and I hope to maybe write the animation out (though not so likely due to my lack of programming experience ;) but i will try me best!
