Release of 6.1.0-RC1

This is the documentation for the first release candidate of SIMP 6.1.0.

We do not expect any major changes prior to the final release but want
to ensure that early adopters have a chance to evaluate the release
prior to final release.

The final release can be expected roughly two weeks after RC1 if no
major bugs are encountered.
