@fourndo is there an example here thatI can start on to merge some of this into base simpeg? Can you point me to this in the work that you have done here?

Ok I updated the notebook example in SimPEGpf/Notebooks:
SimPEG Tutorial - MAG Linear Problem.ipynb

Should take you all the way from mesh, topo, data and through the inversion. Let me know if you get errors. I ran it from my branch.
