The current implementation of querying on multiple trees includes just a list of all the ranks from every tree with no way to query on a specific tree if multiple trees have the same rank. This can get very confusing if a db has several different taxon trees where some might be duplicate ranks and some might be new ones and you might have no clue which ranks belong to which tree, or you want to query just on one specific tree and you can't. Several people internally have expressed some confusion and dislike for this format so I think it is worth it to consider other solutions.
Describe the solution you'd like
There are multiple solutions that could work and I think this should include a further discussion but the ideal solution would be something similar to workbench where you can select the tree first and then the ranks from that tree. This would include first a list of all the taxon tree names and incude an option for any tree, where if a specific tree was chosen it would only show the ranks of that tree, and if any rank was chosen it would show a list of all the ranks.
Mockup:
Describe alternatives you've considered
Another possibility I have thought of would be some kind of filter/operator where on a rank that is in multiple trees an option would be included to select which tree to search or to query all trees it's included in. This could still potentially be confusing as it would still include the massive list but it is another potential solution to consider.
