How do I open a /msg without sending a message?

The description for /msg says Open a query with a nickname and send an optional message but when I do /msg username it says expected 2 arguments, received 1. How do I see an existing private message history without sending a new message?

Currently, the only way to open a query without sending a message is to right click on a username and select "Message" from the user context menu (as far as I'm aware). I will look into updating the input command to work as a second method.

Once 2025.3 is released you will be able to use /msg target to open a private message history with the target user as well. (You will be able to use it to join a channel as well, if the target is a channel name.)
